Adam Boulton is a presenter on Sky News.
Boulton was a founding member of the Sky News staff. He was invited to set up the Sky Political team, which started with a core of 3 journalists and today comprises around a dozen. Previously Adam was TV-am Political Editor, and has been a member of the Parliamentary Lobby since 1983.
Since Autumn 1994 Adam has presented Sky News weekly current affairs programme ‘Sunday’. A year later Adam took the chair for Sky News weekday discussion programme ‘Tonight’, which aired for three years. Tony Blair, John Major, Margaret Thatcher, John Smith, Paddy Ashdown, Lech Walesa and President Hosni Mubarak are among an illustrious list of guests to have appeared on Adam’s extended interview programmes. Adam also presents Sky News PMQs each Wednesday, and takes Sky’s current affairs roadshow, Forum, around the country. From April this year he has presented ‘Answer the Question, a half hour show in which a figure at the centre of the news is grilled by a panel consisting of Boulton and two guest journalists.
In the run up to the 1997 General Election Adam was the first broadcaster with all the accurate developments in the election announcement. In 1995 he was the only journalist to predict live, and then report on John Major’s leadership resignation. He was also the first television journalist to report the Thatcher resignation live from Downing Street. He is the only TV reporter ever to have doorstepped the Queen on political matters live on camera. In 1994 he broke the news that the Malaysian government was lifting its trade embargo on Britain.
A presenter for Sky’s election night programmes, Adam was part of the team on election night 1992 for the longest ever continuous results programme, when Sky was the first TV network to correctly predict the election outcome.
