How did you get started in broadcasting?
I joined RTHK as a radio reporter.

When was that?
1980

Why News broadcasting?
Because that was the only opening they had! Once I’d started, I just loved it.

Where else would have viewers seen or heard you before?
Radio and television in Hong Kong 1980 – 1985. John Craven’s Newsround 1985 – 1991, as reporter and then presenter when John left. South Today 1992 till now, as reporter, Environment Corrrespondent and presenter.

What is your Best on-air moment?
Being first to announce the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster in 1986.

What is your Worst on-air moment?
A live with Jonathon Porritt on the Newbury Bypass protests. We turned up at the crack of dawn one freezing December morning and discovered that no-one had booked a cameraman.

What would you like to do before your career ends?
Make a difference.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Have fun with my partner and my children. Photography, walking, fine food, movies, travel.

What advice would you give to anyone that would like to get into the broadcasting world?
Go to media college – these days you need to be master of various technologies. Be a specialist rather than a generalist. Develop your curiosity and feed your passions.
